About Us

We have been together for 8 years and married since 2012. We own an adorable little bungalow in the Chicago suburbs with a nice size yard for living in town, which is also just a few blocks from the lake. We love where we live, and are thankful to have lots of family close by.

Both of us come from large extended families, and we both have older brothers with children of their own. Rachel and Josie are very close with Rachel’s parents, who have been an inseparable pair, married for 36 years. They have been an amazing and consistent example of what it means to be a family, committed to each other and whatever it takes to make the best of any situation. Josie’s parents, while divorced for many years, have always been loving and supportive of whatever their children’s dreams may be. They have helped us to see that truly anything is possible if you commit your heart and mind fully to it.

Rachel and Josie also have an extended network of friends, both near and far. Some interests of ours include cooking and working on projects both inside and outside of our house. We love to read, learn new things, and try exotic foods.

We also love to volunteer in our community, explore the outdoors, and probably our favorite thing to do is travel and experience new places. Together we have traveled to the Bridges of Madison County in Iowa, camped and skied in Wisconsin, visited our good family friends in Minnesota, attended weddings of close friends in Washington, DC and New York City, and got married on the beach in the Caribbean surrounded by family and friends.

We are very excited and feel now is the right time to share this life with a child! We can’t wait to see the world anew through the eyes of this tiny addition to our family.

About Rachel

Rachel is well-traveled: South Africa, Brazil, Guatemala, Belize, Germany, Austria, Italy, the Czech Republic, the UK, Canada, and Mexico are just some of the countries she has visited. Rachel dreams of a world where diverse people come together to work on the problems that affect us all. This has led her to work in politics and international development in the past.

Now she prefers to be closer to home and family and works in the real estate industry, marketing houses for sale. She has seen the inside of thousands of houses across the country, and loves to create beautiful marketing pieces that bring out the home’s best qualities. Rachel loves to be involved daily in a process that is such a huge event in people’s lives.

Dear Family, Friends, and other visitors who may be reading from around the world, thank you for joining us on our adoption journey.

We are very excited to add the first little human to our precious family. Rachel, Josie, and Ziggy (the almost-3-year-old German Shorthaired Pointer fur kid) are all looking forward to sharing the ups and downs of this rollercoaster with everyone who loves and supports us, looking to connect with others who are on a similar adventure in adoption, and maybe, just maybe someday this story will help someone else in their search for a son or daughter. We have come to understand what the term "nesting without an egg" means and think of this as somewhat of a baby book. Feel free to come take a peak.

About Josie

Josie currently manages a family-owned local coffee roaster and café, but is in the process of testing to become a police officer. After working in her studied field of substance abuse counseling, she came to realize she needed to follow her life-long goal of police work. She loves interacting with all kinds of people, and is eager for the rewards and challenges of a career in law enforcement.

Josie is happiest spending time with close family and friends, cooking a great meal, taking care of the house and yard, playing with Ziggy, and planning adventures big and small. Oh, and geeking out over a meticulously crafted cup of coffee!

Our Future Family

We hope to raise a thoughtful, considerate, and generous child who is open-minded, loves life, and is full of zest and an adventurous spirit. We want to share the diverse perspectives of the world by experiencing different cultures, beliefs, and people with our child.

Education is very important to us – both in school and out in the world. We want to raise a child who has all the tools necessary to confidently choose their own path in life.

We would like to cultivate a home environment where honesty and compassion are vital. We are doing our best to prepare ourselves to become resources to provide guidance and support for our future son or daughter - whether that means answering questions about adoption, race, or how families come in all shapes, sizes, and colors.

We admire our future birthmom’s courage, judgement, and strength. We think birthmoms are superheroes! Adoption is our first choice to start our family, and we can't wait to meet the new additions to our family!
